History
- Ping An Group purchased 18,931 square meters of land through an auction on November 6, 2007 at a price of RMB 1,656.8 million.
- Its cornerstone was laid on August 29, 2009, and construction began in November of the same year. China Construction First Construction Group was hired as the general contractor to construct the building.
- On March 15, 2013, the construction process was temporarily stopped because it was suspected that the concrete made with untreated sea sand might corrode the steel structure. After sample testing, the building resumed construction.
- On the morning of July 15, 2014, a 10-meter-long steel column was hoisted. The height of the skyscraper exceeded 443.8 meters, surpassing the KK100 tower and becoming the tallest building in Shenzhen.
- The building reached its peak on April 30, 2015, becoming the second tallest skyscraper in China, with a height of 599 meters. The original plan was to add a 60-meter-long antenna to the top of the building to surpass the Shanghai Tower and become the tallest building in China.
- However, in February 2015, it was decided that the antenna would not be above the top of the tower because the antenna might obstruct the flight path.
- The project was fully completed in April 2016, and the total height after completion will reach 599.1 meters.
