Xiluodu Dam(Chinese:溪洛渡大坝) is the third largest hydropower station in the world. It has the fourth tallest dam in the world.
And Xiluodu Hydropower Station may be the most intelligent hydropower station in the world.
Xiluodu Hydropower Station is located in China. The section of Jinsha River Canyon between Leibo County, Sichuan Province and Yongshan County, Yunnan Province.
The project focuses on power generation, and has comprehensive benefits such as flood control, sand retention, and improvement of upstream shipping conditions, and can provide cascade compensation for downstream power stations.
It total cost about US $12.2 billion ( ¥79.2 billion yuan).

Smart hydropower station.
This dam applies computer technology, simulation technology, precise temperature control technology, satellite navigation technology, information transmission technology, etc.
The 7,200 advanced monitoring instruments are buried in the dam, which can be accurately monitored in all directions, all time and space. The dam can achieve automatic perception, data analysis, intelligent judgment and automatic adjustment.

Construction history
The construction started at the end of 2005, and the closure was achieved in 2007.
In March 2009, the concrete pouring of the main body of the dam started. It is planned that in 2013, the first batch of power generating stations will be equipped with an underground power plant on each of the left and right banks. Each will install 9 giant hydro-generator units with a single unit capacity of 770,000 kilowatts, with a total installed capacity of 1386 Ten thousand kilowatts, second only to the Three Gorges Hydropower Station and Itaipu Hydropower Station.
As of April 2014, Xiluodu Zuoan Hydropower Station Unit 3 completed trial operation and completed shutdown maintenance, and officially put into operation for power generation. The remaining 4 units are being installed and commissioned, and will be fully operational before the 2014 flood season.
At 21:50 on June 30, 2014, Xiluodu Left Bank Unit 1 ended its 72-hour trial operation and entered into operation. So far, all units of Xiluodu Hydropower Station have been put into operation.

Main building parameters
Xiluodu Hydropower Station is a typical “3 high 3 large” hydropower station. “Three highs” means high dam (300m level), high seismic intensity (basic intensity Ⅷ degree), high-speed water flow (close to 50m / s); “three highs” means large flow (maximum discharge is about 50000m³ / s), large underground Workshop (top arch span over 30m), large unit (single unit capacity 770MW).
The Dam
The bottom elevation of Xiluodu double-curved arch dam is 324.5m, the top elevation of the dam is 610m, and the height of the dam is 285.5m. It is the third tallest arch dam in China after 305m in Jinping Class I and 294.5m in Xiaowan. The center line arc of the dam crest is 681.51m long, and the concrete is about 6.8 million m³.

Underground powerhouse
The size of the underground main power house on the left and right sides of Xiluodu is 443.3m × 31.9m × 75.6m, the size of the main transformer room is 352.93m × 33.0m × 19.8m, and the size of the tail water surge chamber is 316.0m × 95.5m × 26.5m.
The number of underground plant cavern groups (342 caverns) and dimensions are among the best in the world.

The role of Xiluodu dam
Power generation benefit
The power station can provide 571.2 to 64 billion (recent to long-term) degrees of electricity annually.
Underground powerhouses are arranged on the left and right sides, each with 9 hydro-generator sets installed. The total installed capacity of the power station is 13.86 million kilowatts, and the average power generation for many years is 57.12 billion kilowatt hours.

Sand retention benefit
The middle reaches of the Jinsha River is one of the main sand-producing regions of the Yangtze River. The average annual sand content of the Xiluodu Dam site is 1.72 kg per cubic meter. The average annual sediment transport of the Jinsha River at the Xiluodu Dam site is 247 million tons, accounting for the amount of sediment entering the Three Gorges Reservoir 47%.
After calculation and analysis, the Xiluodu Reservoir has been operating alone for 60 years, and the amount of sand entering the Three Gorges Reservoir Area will be reduced by more than 34.1% compared with the natural state, and the median particle size will be refined by about 40%. Important role.

Flood control benefits
The Xiluodu Project is an important part of the Yangtze River flood control system and one of the main engineering measures to solve the problem of the Sichuan River flood control.
The flood control capacity of Xiluodu Reservoir is 4.65 billion cubic meters. The combined flood control of the reservoir and other measures can be used to increase the flood control standards of cities such as Yibin, Luzhou, and Chongqing along the Sichuan River from once in 20 years to once in 100 years, in line with urban flood control planning. standard.
The Xiluodu Reservoir blocked the floods of the Jinsha River during the flood season, which directly reduced the amount of floodwater entering the Three Gorges Reservoir. Cooperating with the operation of the Three Gorges Reservoir can further increase the flood control standards in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
The results of the study show that the flood control in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River can be reduced by about 2.74 billion cubic meters when the Xiluodu Reservoir and the Three Gorges Reservoir are dispatched jointly.

Environmental benefits
Hydropower is clean and renewable energy. After replacing the thermal power with a large amount of high-quality electrical energy at Xiluodu Hydropower Station, it can reduce 41 million tons of coal annually, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 150 million tons, reduce nitrogen dioxide emissions by nearly 480,000 tons, and reduce sulfur dioxide emissions The amount is nearly 850,000 tons.
The total investment for environmental protection and soil and water conservation of Xiluodu Hydropower Station is about 1.206 billion yuan, the artificial green area in the engineering area is 1.2 million m², and the forest and grass coverage in the construction area is 42%.
