Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant

Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant ( Korean: 한빛원자력발전소 ) is located in Yeonggwang-gun, South Jeolla Province, South Korea. This is a large nuclear power plant and one of the top 10 largest nuclear power plants in the world. This power station was first called Yeonggwang and was renamed Hanbit in 2013.

The total installed capacity of Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant is 5875 MW, with 6 pressurized water nuclear reactors.

It began construction on June 4, 1981, and opened its first reactor and started power generation on August 25, 1986. The construction of the last reactor began on November 20, 1997, and was put into operation on December 24, 2002 to generate electricity.

6 pressurized water reactors

All Hanbit units are of the pressurized water reactor (PWR) reactor type.

Unit 1 and Unit 2 are 3-circuit plants designed by Westinghouse; the main components come from foreign companies, while auxiliary components and site construction are carried out in China.

Unit-3 and Unit-4 are two-circuit combustion engineering (C-E) system 80 factories. The main components and structures are handled in the country according to a technology transfer agreement.

Unit-5 and Unit-6 are based on Ulchin (now Hanul) Unit-3 OPR-1000 South Korean standard nuclear power plant design.
