The Third Mainland Bridge is located in It crosses the lagos lagoon, Lagos State, Nigeria, Africa. It was the longest bridge in Africa when it was completed in 1990, until the 6th October Bridge in Egypt surpassed it in 1996. It is also known as Ibrahim Babangida Boulevard.

The Third Mainland Bridge is 7.3 mi (11.8 km) long and has 8 lanes. It connects the main continent and Lagos Island. The bridge was divided into two phases of construction, the first phase started in 1976 and finally opened for use in 1990. there is another bridge leading to Herbert Macaulay Way, Yaba.

History
Birth background
In the 1970s, when the Nigerian Civil War ended and oil prices rose, Nigeria experienced a series of economic recovery. In order to cope with economic development, the construction plan of the Third Mainland Bridge began.
- In 1976 won the contract for the third land bridge. The construction of the bridge is carried out in phases.

Construction process
Phase 1
- In 1976, the construction of Phase 1 of the Third Mainland Bridge began and was in charge of the PGH consortium, which was composed of Impresit Girola and Borini Prono, and Trevi Group provided piling support services.
- In 1980, the first phase of the Third Mainland Bridge was completed, and the bridge was built from Lagos Island to Ebute Metta.

Phase 2
- In 1988, construction of the second phase of the Third Mainland Bridge began, which was undertaken by Julius Berger of Nigeria, from Ebute-Metta to Oworonshoki.
- In 1990, Phase 2 of the Third Mainland Bridge was completed.

Maintenance work
- From 2006 to January 2013, the Third Land Bridge carried out multiple repairs and remedial work at different times to repair the bridge’s vibration problem.
- In 2013, about 1.5 billion naira (about 4 million US dollars) was used for bridge renovation.
- On July 6, 2020, it was announced that the bridge will be closed for six months due to maintenance.
